Take part in Marc's Walk and raise funds for our new Children's Hospice We are delighted that Marc’s Walk is being organised to raise money for the extension to our services to include children and young people, specifically towards the building of a new Children’s Hospice. Marc’s Walk was created in 2011 and since then has raised approx £105,000 for local children’s charities, including Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children (Jersey). The Walk is in memory of Marc Nieuwburg, who died of bone cancer in 2006 at the age of 19. Like previous walks, there will be a choice of three distances, all finishing at Jardins de la Mar. They will include the usual obscure footpaths and quaint country lanes that have always been part of Marc’s Walks: •the 13 mile Walk starting at Grosnez Castle •the six mile Walk starting at St Peter •the three mile Walk starting at Waterworks Valley The Walk is organised by Marc’s father, Willy. He was inspired to organise one for us when he heard about our new plans. Willy said, ‘I read that Jersey Hospice Care was creating a new facility offering end of life care for local children. Some of you may remember that the original idea for Marc’s Walk was to raise money for a specialist cancer unit for teenagers in Southampton’s General Hospital. Well this is similar and inspires me the same way, so I have decided I will create a walk to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care’s new children’s unit.’ To register, please go to: www.jerseyhospicecare.com/event/marcs-walk/
