RELATE – THE ROLE OF THE CHAIRMAN
Description of Relate (Jersey)
Relate is a nation-wide charity providing advice to people who have relationship problems. Our mission is:
To develop and support healthy relationships by:
 Helping couples, families and individuals to make relationships work better
 Delivering inclusive, high-quality services that are relevant at every stage of life
 Helping both the public and policymakers to improve their understanding of relationships and what makes them flourish.
Relate (Jersey)
The Jersey Branch is run by a Manager and at present has a team of 4 counsellors. The committee consists of 5 people, including the Chairman. One of the Committee members is a qualified accountant and acts as Treasurer. The Relate accounts are reviewed by an external accountant.
The Branch also employs a UK based supervisor, who visits the Island every month to assist and monitor the professional work of the counsellors.
Role of the Chairman
1.) Chairing the quarterly meetings
2.) Liaising with the Manager to ensure the smooth running of the office (in St Helier).
3.) Promoting fund raising plans
4.) Liaising with the Supervisor
5.) Representing Relate in discussions with the States, the media etc
6.) It is also essential that the Chairman has an understanding of the work of the counsellors and is empathetic to the work that is done.
