The Association of Jersey Charities has launched ‘Jersey Legacy Week’ as a celebration of International Legacy Day, 13th September 2011. Legacy Day is being celebrated by charities worldwide for the first time and the National and International press will be highlighting this during the week of 12th to 17th September. Jersey Legacy Week begins on 7th September, culminating in Legacy Day, the 13th September.
Legacies can be difficult to discuss openly, however, we want to find a way for everyone to be able to discuss legacies in the open. We feel the best way to do this is to join forces and make a splash about the importance of legacies to charities in Jersey as a whole.
Our Member charities will be handing out Tea bags, kindly supplied by Coopers, to all stakeholders during this week, asking people to sit and chat with their family about leaving a gift to charity in their will. It doesn’t have to be a large amount, so once all family and friends have been taken care of, a little to a favourite charity may be appropriate. The tea bags will be in special individual packets, with one of 2 slogans printed on the reverse – “Please leave a gift to charity in your Will, after you have looked after your family and friends” and “Please leave a gift to charity in your Will – it doesn’t have to be a large amount - any gift will help to make a difference”.
For information on how to make a will, visit the Citizen’s Advice Bureau or call in to talk to an advisor.
