Join us for a fascinating evening with one of the few remaining World War II pilots.

Wednesday, 24th May, 6.30pm at the Royal Yacht Hotel, in aid of Royal Air Forces Association, Jersey Branch.

Sponsored by Ravenscroft Group, the evening will begin with a drinks reception followed by a two course dinner. Flight Lieutenant Colin Bell, DFC AE FRICS RAF (Retired) will then take to the stage to talk more about life in the RAF and his time as a Mosquito Bomber pilot.

The ticket price of £40 includes a two course dinner and will raise funds for two causes close to Colin's heart - the Royal Air Forces Association and the hospice in the UK which cared for his late wife.

About Colin Bell

Now 102 years old, Colin joined the Royal Air Force towards the end of 1940 and trained in the United States. After completing his training, he was retained by the American Army Air Corps as an advanced single-engine flying instructor responsible for training United States and British pilots.

On his return to the United Kingdom in 1943, he converted to twin engine Mosquito Bombers and joined 608 Squadron (Pathfinder Group). During his operational tours, he carried out 50 bombing raids over Germany, 13 of them over Berlin. He experienced much action and survived many close scrapes.

After the war, Colin was transferred to ferry duties bringing back newly built Mosquitos from Canada to the United Kingdom. He ended his full-time Royal Air Force service in 1946 flying out of Blackbushe to carry diplomatic mail to embassies across Europe and Africa.

“At the height of the bomber offensive a heavy bomber crew on a tour of 30 operations stood only a 25% chance of survival from being shot down, so perhaps it was better to be without any imagination at all in those dangerous days – even if you were flying a Mosquito”.
