AJC distributes almost £300k to local charities in second quarter of 2024

Following the latest meeting of its Grants Committee in June, a total of £295,914.94 was awarded by the AJC as part of its Q2 2024 tranche of grants.

The latest quarterly distribution includes grants totaling £68,279.30 from profits from the Channel Islands Lottery as follows:

  • £28,000 to Brighter Future, to support six of the charity’s groups/programmes
  • £16.879.30 to Brightly, to support staff costs of a part-time coordinator
  • £23,400 to Pain Support Jersey, to support staff costs of a part-time development officer

In addition, a further £106,800 was awarded through conditional grants to charities where additional criteria or specific conditions need to be met, whilst a further £120,835.64 was distributed from private donations.

Commenting on the latest round of grants, Marcus Liddiard, Chair of the AJC Grants Committee, said:

“Earlier this year, a Freedom of Information request made on our behalf revealed that donations to local charities had fallen by around a third over the past two years. Fundraising for charities is extremely challenging for charities at the moment and, at the same time, we know that local charities are being asked to do more and more to deliver vital community services.

“With that in mind I’m delighted that the AJC has been able to award grants totaling almost £300,000 in the second quarter of the year. It means that over the first half of 2024, the AJC has awarded grants totaling more than £677,000. Nevertheless, I would continue to encourage islanders to continue to support charities as best they can in the tough environment we are currently experiencing.”

The AJC’s Grants Committee, which is made up of Officers of the Association and independent panel members, will next meet on 10 September 2024 with an application deadline of 20 August. Grants are open to all Jersey-registered charities, and further information is available here.
