Carers Jersey (Jersey Association of Carers Incorporated) is seeking a new Chairperson to lead the Committee in continuing to support all unpaid Carers in Jersey. The Jersey Association of Carers (Carers Jersey ) was founded in 1994 by Soroptimist International Jersey to provide a forum to represent Carers’ issues, to ensure recognition for carers, act as a pressure group and lobby to effect change.
The Carers Partnership Group was set up by carers to create a collaborative group of like-minded organisations and charities facing similar issues and to celebrate caring in Jersey. Working with the Health Department this group meets regularly.
Our purpose is as follows:
Carers Jersey aims to support all unpaid carers in the Island and represent other organisations and charities which have a carer community in lobbying professionals and government collectively for the greater good of carers in Jersey. We offer support for unpaid carers on Jersey
Public Benefit Statement
The Association provides a support network for Carers and acts as a pressure group on behalf of Carers of all ages to ensure that they receive recognition by family, community service providers and the States of Jersey and adequate support both financially and through respite facilities.
We are looking to attract a highly driven Charity Chair to join our committee.
Time Commitment is circa 15-20 hours a month. The position is voluntary.
Key deliverables:
The key deliverables of the role are as follows:
- Continue to drive the change in Carers legislation, advocating for carers.
- Provide strategic leadership for the charity ensuring effective governance, legal compliance and financial oversite whilst delivering the charitable purpose of JACI
- Lead fundraising efforts of the Charity.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven Leadership Experience ideally in or governance or non profit context
- Strong Communication, diplomacy and facilitation skills
- Commitment to the mission, values and vision of the charity.
- Deep interest in improving and supporting Carers through their Caring journey.
- Understanding of Charity Trustee/board responsibilities and relevant Charities Law
Desirable
- Previous experience as a trustee or charity leader
- Strategic Planning or Fundraising Experience
- Knowledge of the charities area of work
