Family Mediation Jersey

Join Family Mediation Jersey as Treasurer
As part of our strategic plans for 2025/26, Family Mediation Jersey (FMJ) is expanding its Management Committee to ensure strong, effective governance and a diverse range of skills. We are currently seeking a Treasurer to join our board - someone with a solid background in finance or accounting, and a passion for supporting families in our local community.

Why Join FMJ?
FMJ is a not-for-profit charity providing confidential, professional mediation services to families in Jersey. We help families navigate complex issues such as separation, childcare arrangements, financial settlements, and intergenerational disputes. Our work is impactful, and our Trustees play a vital role in shaping our future.

About the Treasurer Role
As Treasurer, you will be a key member of the Management Committee, responsible for overseeing the financial health of the charity. You will work closely with the Chair and Committee to ensure robust financial planning, reporting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor the financial standing of the charity and report to the Board regularly.
• Ensure proper financial controls and procedures are in place.
• Oversee the preparation and presentation of budgets, accounts, and financial statements.
• Liaise with external auditors and ensure timely submission of annual accounts.
• Advise on the financial implications of strategic plans and decisions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial legislation and best practices in charity finance.

• General Trustee Duties
In addition to your financial oversight, you will:
• Ensure FMJ complies with its governing documents and relevant laws.
• Help set strategic direction and evaluate performance.
• Safeguard the charity’s reputation, values, and assets.
• Contribute your expertise to sub-committees or working groups as needed.

Commitment
Term: One year, renewable annually.
Meetings: Monthly board meetings, plus the AGM and any extraordinary meetings.
Time: Flexible, but we ask for a reliable commitment to support the charity’s financial governance.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with:
• Professional experience in finance, accounting, or audit (qualified or part-qualified).
• An understanding of charity finance and trustee responsibilities (or willingness to learn).
• A collaborative mindset and a commitment to FMJ’s mission.
• We value diversity and are keen to hear from people with a range of lived and professional experiences.
