Crematorium Technician
Contract type: Permanent, Part-Time

A member of the Service Support Team, you will work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues to deliver an efficient, cost-effective and compliant crematorium service to clients of the JSPCA.
You will communicate effectively, support the delivery of a joined-up service and will work within relevant JSPCA policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe and clean working environment. This role involves working around heat, odours and equipment, and may involve manual handling. PPE will be provided and must be worn.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential

Ability to plan and organise workload, work independently where appropriate, and take responsibility within agreed parameters.

Understanding of operational risk and safe working practices, with the ability to support risk assessments and follow safe systems of work.

Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements and best practice (e.g., manual handling, COSHH/chemical safety where applicable, equipment safety, PPE).

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Able to maintain accurate records and follow procedures with attention to detail.

Able to work under pressure and meet agreed deadlines/turnaround times.

Willingness to be trained to use relevant equipment safely and correctly (or prior experience if required).

Full, clean driving licence.
Desirable

Experience in a crematorium, veterinary, animal welfare, mortuary, waste management, or similarly regulated operational environment.

Formal health and safety training (e.g., IOSH Working Safely / manual handling / COSHH).

Experience with equipment maintenance checks, logs, and compliance documentation.

Experience working in emotionally sensitive environments with professionalism and discretion.

Basic IT skills for record keeping and reporting.
