BeachAbility – Community & Operations Assistant (Summer & Seasonal Support)
Job Title: Community & Operations Assistant
Contract Type: Fixed-term with potential for light-year-round extension
Duration: Core period July to September 2025 (approx. 10 weeks), with additional flexible hours during key periods (e.g. Easter and school holidays)
Hours: Approx. 25 hours per week during summer; reduced and flexible hours outside peak season as agreed
Pay: £15.00 per hour (aligned with Jersey Living Wage, reviewed annually)
Location: BeachAbility sites across Jersey and some remote working
Reporting to: Chair or designated Committee Member
About BeachAbility
BeachAbility is a Jersey-based charity providing free access to specially designed beach wheelchairs. The service enables individuals with mobility challenges to access and enjoy the island’s beaches with dignity and independence. Delivered by volunteers, the charity operates year-round and continues to experience growing demand.
Purpose of the Role
The Community & Operations Assistant plays a key role in both delivering the summer service and supporting ongoing engagement, communication, and coordination.
During peak season, the role is hands-on, ensuring the smooth running of beach services.
Outside of peak periods, the role supports bookings, communications, and monitoring to ensure the service is visible, accessible, and continuously improving.
Key Responsibilities
1. Service Delivery (Summer Period)
● Provide a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive experience for all service users
● Assist individuals in using beach wheelchairs safely and comfortably
● Travel between BeachAbility locations as required
● Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of equipment
● Maintain accurate usage and safety records
2. Bookings, Website and Enquiries
● Manage the BeachAbility booking system, including online bookings
● Respond to website enquiries, phone calls, and messages in a timely and professional manner
● Coordinate bookings effectively to maximise service availability and volunteer support
● Ensure booking information is accurately recorded and maintained
3. Community Engagement and Communications
● Support awareness of BeachAbility across the island
● Manage and update social media channels with relevant, accessible content
● Share stories, updates, and service information to engage the community
● Support outreach to local organisations and partners where appropriate
4. Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation
● Record and monitor service usage, including bookings and user feedback
● Support basic reporting on activity levels and trends
● Assist in gathering feedback from users and volunteers to inform service improvements
● Contribute to evaluation and reporting for funders and stakeholders
5. Operational Support
● Work closely with volunteers and report any issues to the Chair
● Support organisation of equipment and supplies across sites
● Contribute ideas to improve service delivery, accessibility, and user experience
Person Specification
Essential
● Friendly, approachable, and confident in communicating with a wide range of people
● Reliable and able to work independently
● Confident using digital tools, including online systems and social media
● Organised with good attention to detail
● Physically able to assist with equipment
● Willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
● Access to own transport and a valid driving licence
● Right to work in Jersey
Desirable
● Experience managing bookings, enquiries, or administrative systems
● Interest or experience in community engagement or communications
● Experience in customer-facing or community roles
● Understanding of accessibility and inclusion
● First aid training (or willingness to undertake training)
