AJC Distributes almost £175K to local charities for first quarter of 2023

Following the latest meeting of its Grants Committee in March, a total of £174,064 was awarded by the AJC as part of its Q1 2023 tranche of grants, including grants totaling £119,299 distributed from profits from the Channel Islands Lottery to:

  • Jersey Recovery College: £25,500, to support staff costs
  • 7 Overseas (Jersey) Squadron, Air Training Corps: £29,389, to support a Hangar project
  • Dementia Jersey: £30,000, to support staff costs
  • Family Mediation Jersey: £19,410, to support a translation project
  • Focus on Mental Illness: £15,000, to support staff costs

In addition, a further £30,000 was awarded through conditional grants to charities where additional criteria or specific conditions need to be met, whilst a further £24,765 was distributed from private donations.

Commenting on the latest round of grants, Marcus Liddiard, Chair of the AJC’s Grants Committee, said:

“It has continued to be a tough start to the year for charities in terms of fundraising, against the backdrop of a cost of living crisis and rising inflation. With that in mind, I’m pleased that we are able to award these grants to a broad range of charities, all of whom add considerable value to our local community.”

Family Mediation Jersey were delighted to receive a grant from the AJC towards its translation project, as Elaine Feltham, Manager, explained:

“Receiving this grant from the AJC will give a huge boost to the charity, and will enable us to provide an inclusive service, by offering information and mediation sessions to Portuguese speaking clients.”

Chair of the charity, Jane Ferguson, added:

“We are delighted to be able to offer a more inclusive service, particularly for Portuguese speaking residents. When the new website goes live it will include translated information, while the employment of a Portuguese speaking mediator will give an opportunity for them to mediate in their first language, ensuring that they fully understand the process and agreements made.”

The AJC’s Grants Committee will next meet in June, with a deadline of 23rd May for applications. Details of how to apply can be found here. The Grants Committee is made up of Officers of the Association and independent panel members.
